The Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) has awarded Lisa Durham, Argonne Leadership Institute director, with its 2016 Industry Trailblazer Award. The award recognizes and honors an employer, individual or group of employees in industry for enhancing and inspiring the success of women in science, technology, engineering and math careers.

WEPAN honorees demonstrate extraordinary service, significant achievement, model programs and exemplary work environments that promote a culture of inclusion and the success of women in engineering.

Durham was appointed director of the Leadership Institute in 2015. She served as the institute’s interim director from 2014 to 2015 and as Argonne’s Women in Science and Technology program initiator from 2013 to 2015.

Durham has a bachelor’s degree in geology from Texas A&M University and a master of science degree in geosciences from Purdue University. She began her career at Argonne as an environmental scientist/hydrologist in the Environmental Assessment division and in 1998 advanced to become a principal environmental engineer. In 2009 she became a program manager, and she also previously served as manager of the Geosciences and Information Technology Section in the Environmental Science division.

WEPAN is a nonprofit educational organization founded in 1990 to be a catalyst for change to enhance the success of women in the engineering professions.
